Learning Encounters Science Teacher Lesson Plans
Searching for Science Lesson Plans? Need to inspire your students with interesting and fun science lesson plans?

We’ve partnered with a team of four credentialed educators who will be contributing lesson plans that meet the National Science Education standards (pdf). Here are our team members:

Sheila Flox - 8th grade science teacher at Lance Middle School, Kenosha, WI

Janet Tarkowski - 8th Grade Science Teacher, Bullen Middle School, Kenosha, WI
Maureen Bagg - Educational Consultant, Performance Improvement Institute

Oreo Moon Phases
Use Oreo cookies to create the different phases of the Moon as seen by Earthlings. Then identify where the Sun and Moon are relative to the Earth to explain why we see the various Moon phases.

Space Debris - Cool Comets
This “cool” activity uses dry ice to create a model of a comet so you can identify the parts of a comet and the changes comets go through as they orbit the sun over time.

Planetary Sizes - How Big is Big?
Create a representation of the planets and the sun in our solar system and understand their size in relationship to each other.

Planetary Distances - How Far is Far?
Create a representation (on a table or a football field) that improves understanding of the relative distance between the planets in our solar system.
